What if we wrote a book?

What if we wrote a book?

By Teresa Sousa

I met Rui Sousa at a phase when my career direction was changing. With nearly a decade of experience in the translation industry, I was convinced I could build a solid career as a freelance translator. I saw my experience as a translation project manager as an asset. At least I knew what  NOT to do, and I thought that was a beginning. I realized Rui and his partner Luísa Matos had followed similar careers, working as project managers and then as freelance translators. We shared the common belief that project management skills contributed a lot to the way we presented ourselves as translators. And we thought it would be useful to share this knowledge and experience with our colleagues.

So, we came up with an idea, what if we wrote a book? An e-book, easy to refer to, with links and resources always available and suitable for a number of situations in the daily lives of every translator. “Beginning, Middle and End”, was the title we ended up choosing for a project that took up our “free” time for about a year and a half. The result was presented in June this year to over 200 professionals in the translation industry, at APTRAD’s First International Conference. Some of the attendees had the chance to buy printed (autographed!) copies we ordered specially for the event. Our e-book is available in both English and Portuguese versions at Lulu.com. You can also follow our Facebook page, where we regularly share interesting articles and news about our book and this subject in general. After all, this is only the “Beginning”…
