5 translation conferences you can still attend this year

5 translation conferences you can still attend this year

By Teresa Sousa

Have you been super busy this year, without enough time to do any networking or keep up with the latest trends and insights in the translation industry? Fear not! There’s still a chance to take part in some inspiring events this year. I know I will, especially since some of them are here in Brussels. Focusing on the events being held in Europe, I came up with a small selection of the ones I think will be the most interesting.

SDL Roadshows – SDL, which apparently is turning 25 this year, will be on the road hosting informative and entertaining events in some European cities. London, Stockholm, Milan, Brussels and Madrid are on the agenda for October, so take your pick. You can register for free. More info here.

Language Technology Industry Summit – Also in Brussels and in October (9-11), the Language Technology Industry Summit is totally focused on new technologies and future trends. You can find the programme and registration information here.

tcworld conference and tekom fair – From 24-26 October, the lovely city of Stuttgart will once again welcome the  tcworld conference and tekom fair. This is the one event you must attend if you’re interested in technical communication. Admission to the fair is free but you need to register first. There you’ll be able to visit nearly 100 exhibitors, learn about their products and services and perhaps meet some new clients or partners. If you’d like to attend the conference too, you can get all the info about costs and the registration procedure here.

METM17 – From Stuttgart, you can hop to (hopefully) warmer climes and attend the Mediterranean Editors & Translators Meeting 2017  in Brescia, Italy, from 26-28 October for two and a half days of a wide range of presentations, workshops and… networking.

#TranslatingEurope Forum 2017 – Back to Brussels! On 6-7 November, the Translation Department of the European Commission is organising the 4th edition of the Translating Europe Forum, focusing this year on translators’ skills and employability. Registration is free but subject to confirmation.

I’ll be attending the SDL Roadshow in Brussels on October 19 and the TranslatingEurope Forum. If you’re going too, drop me a line and we can get together for some beer and sightseeing… not necessarily in that order!
