If you’re looking for some opportunities to keep up with the latest trends and insights about the translation industry, looking forward to meeting new colleagues or getting together with old ones or if you’re just looking for an excuse to get away for a few days and (re)visit a lovely city, translation conferences are the way to go.
Focusing on the events being held in Europe this year, I came up with a small selection of the ones I think will be the most interesting.
Elia (European Language Industry Association)
February 22, 2018 – February 23, 2018
In just a few weeks, Together, an event that aims at bringing language service companies and independent language professionals together in a positive, collaborative environment, will be held for the third time. Athens is the location of this year’s event and you can find all the information here.
The Translation and Localization Conference 2018
March 23, 2018 – March 24, 2018
Focusing on this year’s main theme, Translator Ex Machina, the idea is to emphasize the growing importance of the role of a translator surrounded by a host of different technologies and understand how these gradual changes influence the profession and the industry.
BP18 Translation Conference
B+B Mezzofanti Bt.
April 19, 2018 – April 20, 2018
I’ve got my eye on this one. It’s been too long since I’ve been to Vienna and the programme seems quite interesting. You can find all the info here.
German unconference 2018
The Unconference Team
April 26, 2018 – April 28, 2018
I must confess, I’ve never heard of this event but it certainly sounds like a lot of fun. As described on the event website: “No stuffy general sessions or arcane topics. No audience reading e-mail during presentations. No terrible suits. No buses to social events. And no PowerPoint karaoke or sales pitches.” Love it. Tempting.
Aptrad’s 2nd International Conference
May 17, 2018 – May 19, 2018
And last but not least, APTRAD will be holding its second international conference this year in the lovely city of Porto. If you’ve been looking for an opportunity to visit, check out this wonderful programme.
Drop me a line if you found any other interesting events for this year. I’d love to hear about them!
